Dewatering screw press is a perfect fit to reduce the noise level of WWTP
In the world of sludge treatment, there are many technological options available for wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) to dewater sludge. Some of the equipment has passed its best days and is slowly reaching the end of its lifecycle. Modern and highly efficient dewatering machines are coming more and more to the fore. However, even these can have their disadvantages. That's why you always need to consider all aspects so that buying an expensive machine is not a painful investment in the future. Did you know that one of the frequent decision criteria for choosing a dewatering machine for a WWTP is the level of noise and vibration? We will demonstrate our screw press on one particular reference installation.
Enjoy the Silence
With a bit of exaggeration, we can say that it was the "silent" operation of the screw press that won us the contract in Bystřice pod Hostýnem. The wastewater treatment plant for 16 800 inhabitants is located on the border of the Olomouc and Zlín regions. Its operation, especially the sludge treatment, is also significantly influenced by the local dairy. The wastewater from dairy operations can mess up the sludge and it is generally more difficult to dewater it. The local WWTP operated a belt press that was almost 20 years old. It was already at the end of its lifecycle, so it was quite faulty, and frequent service interventions made its operation significantly more expensive. The decision to replace the dewatering equipment was made, the question was what would replace the belt press in the Bystřice WWTP. One of the crucial factors was the noise level. The pressing plant is located in the same building as the administrative facilities of the entire treatment plant. The aim was to find a machine that would not disturb either the workers or the immediate surroundings.
New and with benefits
The old belt press had problems with capacity, reliability, and high noise levels. The change was necessary and the tender criteria were clear. The operator commissioned several projects for the renewal of sludge management. They also thought about a centrifuge, but it is very energy-consuming and its operation is quite noisy. The comparison of the advantages and disadvantages of different types of dewatering devices is discussed in detail in the article. The customer liked our " figures" so we arranged for on-site testing with our screw press. And it has spoken for itself. There is nothing better than seeing a dewatering machine in its live operation.
Starring a dewatering screw press
The dewatering screw press has been a winner for the customer because of its simplicity, quick installation, low failure rate, lower purchase costs, and significantly lower noise and vibration levels compared to centrifuges. You can place the screw press anywhere without having to build soundproof walls. The quiet operation was probably the main reason why we implemented the change of the dewatering equipment in Bystřice.
Turnkey installation
But the simple delivery of the machine to the WWTP is not the end of the story for us. Most installations also require other sub-tasks. At the Bystřice WWTP, we were involved in a larger turnkey project in cooperation with the general contractor who took care of the complete construction work. In addition to a new medium-sized dewatering screw press, we undertook, for example, major metalwork. The implementation was one of the more complex ones, as the dewatering plant is located on three height levels, which had to be smartly connected so that the entire dewatering facility works efficiently.
Dewatering screw press & Co.
In the dewatering plant, only a refurbished belt conveyor remains from the original equipment, which transports the dewatered sludge from the screw press to a transport container located outside. We had to place the new machine in the space above this conveyor, so we built a height-adjustable platform, service platforms, and stairs including railings. These are the mentioned metalworks, which we can also take care of without any problems. The delivery also included two sewage pumps located in the basement under the dewatering room and stainless steel interconnection of all equipment (complete connection of the sludge tank of the pumps and the screw press).
We are pleased with every such successful implementation when we see in practice how our dewatering equipment helps to treat sludge from municipal and industrial waters.
Are you worried about your old dewatering equipment? Isn't it finally time for a change? Efficient and noiseless dewatering screw presses reduce sludge volume with little energy consumption.
